The Micropinna Microstoma, also known as Barreleye, is a deep water fish. This fish lives year-round, around seamounts, at depths of 16,000-50,000 meters. It has been caught by mid-water trawl nets in areas with bottom depths of 1,600-3,600 meters. They are usually are 15 cm long, but can grow to 44 cm. Adults are dark brown. A transparent head glows with  silicone-like shield covers on the top of the head. Usually, once this fish thinks its been spotted, it darts into the darkness. Barreleye fish are mainly found off the coast of California and the North Pacific area.
