In the anime, One Outs, the most popular baseball related gambling game is called One Outs. It is a battle between one pitcher and one batter. The pitcher’s objective is to simply strike the batter out while the batter’s objective is to hit the ball anywhere in fair territory, passed the infield. Toua Tokuchi is a gamble expert when it comes to One Outs. Although he pitches nearly at the same speed of a highschool pitcher, he won over 400 games of One Outs by using his one and only pitch, a fastball.
Kojima Hiromichi, a professional batter for the Lycaons, sees Tokuchi’s unbelievable pitching skills and makes a bet with him–If Tokuchi wins in a game of One Outs against him, he will retire from Major League Baseball. But if Tokuchi loses, he has to join the Lycaons and get them to win the championships. In the end Kojima wins, forcing Tokuchi to join the team with him.
When he joins the team, the Lycaons owner, Tsuneo Saikawa, sees this incredibly talented pitcher as a threat to his income so he organizes a deal with Tokuchi. Saikawa makes the One Outs Contract stating that for every strike out that Tokuchi gets, he will gain 5 million yen. But for every run that he gives up, he will lose 50 million yen.
Saikawa (the Lycaons owner) goes to great lengths just to make sure that he takes as much money as possible from Tokuchi, leaving him penniless.
