On May 28, 2016, there was a major incident at the Cincinnati Zoo in Cincinnati, Ohio. One of mankind’s greatest heroe
s was killed one day after his 17th birthday. And this great hero’s name is Harambe. Harambe, a 450 pound gorilla, was just doing his normal routine, eat, drink, and be observed by many happy civilians until this fateful day came. 3 year-old Isaiah Dickerson climbed over a 3 foot high fence, crawled through 4 feet of bushes, and fell about 15 feet into a moat shallow with water. Harambe was curious to see what exactly caused the big splash in his property so he went and investigated. He found Isaiah and held his hand to reassure him that everything was going to be okay. But soon Harambe became scared and disorientated by many screaming onlookers. He began to panic and ran through the water dragging Isaiah with him. After 10 long minutes of fear, Harambe was fatally shot. Cincinnati firefighters said Isaiah was being held between Harambe’s legs when the shot was fired.
The mother of Isaiah was distracted with her other 3 children when he fell into the gorilla habitat. One witness named Kimberly Ann Perkins O’Connor said that she heard Isaiah tell his mother that he was going into the moat. “The little boy himself had already been talking about wanting to go in and get in the water and his mother is like, ‘No you’re not, no you’re not,’ ” said Kimberley.
Although the mother of Isaiah Dickerson was not faced with charges, the Dickerson family will have to face Social Media and Memes constantly reminding them that they were the cause of this tragic incident.
Harambe will forever be remembered.
